THE 1936 OLYMPIC GAMES IN BERLIN
1936, Cast Bronze Commemorative Medallion, 138.50mm., 531.40g., Rim-punched, K•GœTz. RRR

Obverse:  Date in exergue on obverse indicates the day the torch was lit in Olympia, Greece and brought by relay runners to Berlin to arrive in the Olympia stadium in Berlin to ignite the Olympic fire there on August 1, 1936 which burned for the next 16 days.

Reverse:  Laurel passed from hand to hand within the five Olympic rings.

This beautiful medallion commemorates Hitler's attempt to introduce the world to the German "Übermensch".  Jesse Owens proved otherwise as he singlehandedly demolished Hitler's propaganda attempt.  These medallions are cross-collected by Olympics collectors and these rare pieces will only gain in value as we approach the event's centennial in 2036.

A beautiful salad plate sized medallion that is coming straight out of the KarlGoetz.com Collection where it's been admired for 15 years!!.

Grade: Gussfrisch (As Cast)  RRR
