Obverse with profile busts of General Joseph-Jacques Cesaire "Papa" Joffre (1852-1931), Commander Michel-Joseph Maunoury (1847-1923) and Commander Joseph-Simon Gallieni (1849-1916), with title legend and date "Septembre 1914", Reverse with a scene of the French army defending Paris and guided by the armed Marianne.

The First Battle of the Marne, also known as the Miracle of the Marne, was fought from the 5th to the 12th of September, 1914. The Franco-British allied victory effectively ended Germany's month-long opening salvo of the war, halting their march into France at the very outskirts of Paris.

Grade: VZ+ (XF)  Beautiful original skin with peripheral peacock blue and pinks.  RRR in silver (nearly 3 ounces).
